Aberdeen Economics Society

In the 1970s, when oil was first discovered in the North Sea, Scotland suddenly found itself at the centre of global debates about energy, growth and sustainability. Half a century later, as the world transitions to greener futures, those same questions remain. Economics as a discipline has often struggled to keep up, too narrowly taught and disconnected from history, politics and communities. The Aberdeen Economics Society was founded to change that. By affiliating with Rethinking Economics, we join an international network committed to making economics more pluralist, inclusive and relevant to today’s challenges. We aim to create a space where students can question assumptions, explore diverse schools of thought, and connect economics to real issues. Whether undergraduate or postgraduate, or simply curious about economics, all are welcome. Our goal is to build a sociable, critical and sustainable community where new ideas can emerge.
