Rethinking Economics Islamabad

Rethinking Economics Islamabad is dedicated to advancing methodological and theoretical pluralism within the discipline of economics. We challenge the continued dominance of the neoclassical paradigm by promoting critical engagement with alternative schools of thought, including institutional, Marxian, post Keynesian, and feminist economics. Our work extends beyond critique into active efforts toward curriculum reform. We advocate for a more interdisciplinary and context grounded economic education that reflects real world complexities rather than abstract idealizations. Through seminars, policy dialogues, and workshops, we facilitate meaningful engagement between students, academics, and practitioners, focusing on structural issues such as inequality, climate change, and development challenges in the Global South. We place strong emphasis on intellectual production by providing platforms for student led research and publications. Our aim is to cultivate analytical rigor and independent thought among emerging economists. As part of the broader Rethinking Economics International network, we seek to institutionalize critical inquiry and expand the boundaries of economic discourse in Pakistan.
