Rethinking Economics JNU

Rethinking Economics JNU is a student-run organisation with the primary objective of exploring and propagating pluralist ideas in economics. The Centre for Economic Studies and Planning at JNU introduces students to different schools of thought within the broad area of heterodox economics, but the exposure is limited. For instance, the role of racial, gender, caste and class identities is not given adequate representation in the curriculum. We believe in the importance of exposure to different methodologies for analysing real economic issues, and that this helps to enhance the critical thinking and analytical skills of students. The local chapter aims to address this gap by bringing together the community of students and professors to participate in discussion on the neglected fields within pluralist economics. We aim to push for change in the curriculum by encouraging the department to offer courses in the understudied heterodox perspectives.
