Student Circle of Heterodox Economists UW

When attending lectures on micro and macroeconomics, it is hard not to get the impression that we are analysing not real reality but a parallel world, a place where everything is rational and calculable with the help of demand and supply curves. Writing page after page of numbers placed under unknowns, one may have doubts about whether economics is really a social science explaining the dynamic processes of the modern world, or just a way of redistributing power. This doubt gave rise to the idea of creating the Scientific Circle of Heterodox Economics, a community of people from various Warsaw universities, faculties and countries looking critically at the discourse dominant in the economic sciences. We meet every week with our group’s supervisor to analyse various economic themes, and in addition we organise meetings with specialists in various fields of economics and meetings around books.
